On May 9, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. I will be doing a Q&A with Marcia Zug, the Miles and Ann Loadholt Professor of Family Law at University of South Carolina on her recently published, You’ll Do: A History of Marrying for Reasons Other Than Love at Blue Bicycle Books, 420 King Street, Charleston, SC 29403.

I’m excited to be doing this.  Professor Zug’s work is a fascinating work of legal scholarship that is still accessible to a non-lawyer audience.  Few are surprised that folks marry for reasons other than (I might argue in addition to) love but some of the reasons Zug finds were surprising to this long married, long practicing divorce lawyer.

In January 2024, the same month Professor Zug published her latest work, Brad Wilcox, Professor of Sociology at the University of Virginia and the Director of the National Marriage Project published Get Married: Why Americans Must Defy the Elites, Forge Strong Families, and Save Civilization.  These two books could be in dialogue with each other. I intend to publish my reviews of both after this Q&A.

So come see Professor Zug and I discuss the history and current state of marriage.  We, and Blue Bicycle Books, would love a large and enthusiastic audience.
